Angus Glen Farms

Angus Glen Farms, located in Watkins Glen, New York, is owned and operated by Brett Chedzoy and his family.

Nestled in the heart of Watkins Glen, their farm is home to a Black Angus cattle herd grazing across 100 paddocks managed with a strong commitment to sustainable farming. Brett sums up their philosophy perfectly:

“What we do today as farmers is really thinking about what we want to leave for the next people that are going to farm this land.”

Half of their paddocks are forest land that had been overrun by noxious invasive bushes—plants harmful not only to native species but also to the ecosystem as a whole. To combat this, the Chedzoy family adopted silvopasturing, a practice they describe as a “symbiotic combination of grazing animals, forages, and trees.”

By rotating their cattle regularly across paddocks, they have helped restore the forest’s health. This careful management has allowed them to remove lower-quality and unhealthy trees, control invasive species, and encourage the growth of productive forages.

 Brett reflects on their success:

“Protecting this landscape through sound farming practices is very important to our family. I firmly believe that our land is healthier and more productive today, and more resilient and more sustainable because of grazing it with our beef cattle herd.”

In recognition of their leadership in sustainable agriculture, Angus Glen Farms was honored with the Region 1 Environmental Stewardship Award in 2024.
