New York Beef Council and New York Agriculture in the Classroom invite you to take your classroom on a virtual field trip to a New York beef farm!
This Fall, two virtual field trips, one for elementary classrooms and one for middle and high school classrooms, will be offered to virtually transport students to a beef farm sharing how beef is grown and cared for in New York. Students will chat directly with a farmer and experts during live Q&A sessions during the trips. Each trip is also recorded so that classrooms not able to participate in live virtual field trips can watch a trip on-demand.
Students will visit O’Mara Farms, owned by Paul and Cindy O’Mara and located in Madison County NY, is a diversified farm. The farm grows crops including (corn, wheat, barley, rye, hay, and snap beans) along with a Black Angus cow/calf herd. Chrissy Claudio, along with her husband Cory and their daughter Addison joined the team in 2017. Since their arrival they have worked diligently caring for the herd which now includes over 450 total head, managing and improving the pasture and grazing the herd, as well as, delivering over 140 baby calves annually, to keep the herd growing. Join us on a tour of O’Mara Farms to learn about the beef lifecycle, cattle care, and environmental stewardship practices on their farm.
Kindergarten-5th Grade Trip Oct. 16 at 9:00 a.m. Eastern
During this 30-minute trip, farmer Chrissy will show students how she cares for her cattle at O'Mara Beef Farm. Students will learn about the beef life cycle, cattle care and environmental stewardship practices on the farm, while also having time to ask questions directly to Chrissy throughout and at the end of the trip.
6th-12th Grade Trip Oct. 16 at 12:30 p.m. Eastern
Farmer Chrissy will take students on a 45-minute tour of O'Mara Beef Farm. Students will learn about beef's journey from pasture to plate include animal reproduction and herd health, environmental sustainability on the farm and students will be encouraged to ask questions related to all aspects of the beef industry.
Note: Trips are capped at 15 school
connections each. Your classroom must be from New York State and have at least
15 students participating to qualify for the live trips. If trip participation
is full at your time of registration, you will be put on a waitlist to take the
place of any classroom that is not able to participate. All registrants may
request a recording of a trip to share with your classroom.
Additional trips will also be held in the spring. You are also welcome to
register to be notified when these trips become available.
