The New York Beef Industry
New York's agricultural community has direct revenues of over $3 billion annually, making agriculture one of the biggest industries in this state. Beef farms certainly play a key role in keeping agricultural revenues strong.
There are 36,600 farms in the Empire State--of these farms 14,700 are cattle and calf operations. New York has over 138,000 beef head, replacement heifers and steers within its borders. Thousands more beef cows can be found on dairy farms across our state.
All New Yorkers need to recognize and remember the important role our beef farmers play in our daily lives. Without our local beef producers, fresh quality beef would not only be less available on a local level but it would also be more expensive.
